Collection AGency??????????????

i have a two part question.

i got a letter from collection agency saying i owe $35 to my insurance company.

my insurance premium was $505 before it was cancelled for non payment.

if it was cancelled why would i owe $35?

if i pay the 35 asap will they report it as a collection to credit beueus?

Settling with a collection agency, how do I go about negotiating removal of negative item on credit report?
